Scarring on the leg of a 60 year old man after treatment for a pyoderma gangrenosum ulcer. This is a large, painful, pus-producing sore that is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, one in which the immune systems attacks the body's own tissues. In this case the ulcer was cleaned and the affected area had healthy skin grafted on. Treatment with immunosuppressant drugs can also help, although complete recovery may take several months.
