Tumour removal scar. Scar on the head of a 14 year old boy from the surgical removal of a neurofibroma. A neurofibroma is a benign tumour of the Schwann cells that surround nerves. Although non-cancerous, the tumour's growth may cause harm by putting pressure on surrounding tissues. This boy has the genetic disease neurofibromatosis, which is characterised by the development of multiple neurofibromas.
