Stretch marks on the arm of a 30 year old woman. Stretch marks, oe stria, are due to thinning and loss of elasticity in the lower layer of the skin, the dermis. This case is thought to have been caused by the use of corticosteroids. They may also be caused by pregnancy, obesity and growth spurts. There is no treatment for the condition.
