Scalded skin of an infant. Hot water burns on an infant's chest. The epidermis has reddened and become swollen. The left arm, near the elbow, which is partly hidden here, received more severe scalding and the epidermis peeled away. The child must be treated for trauma and pain, and the affected area soothed and protected against infection. In such first-degree burns scarring is unlikely.
