Sunburn. Ten year old girl applying soothing aftersun cream to her sunburnt skin. Over-exposure to the Sun's ultraviolet radiation has resulted in first degree burns on exposed areas of her skin. Sunburn is more common in fair-skinned people as they lack the protective pigment melanin. Repeated exposure to strong sunshine ages the skin prematurely and increases the risk of skin cancer.
