Caption

Burn on buttock. The burn was caused by a cocktail glass containing a flaming sambuca. The degree of damage depends on the depth of the burn. First degree burns affect only superficial tissue and heal without scarring, while second degree burns cause the skin to blister. Third degree burns destroy the whole skin layer and leave permanent scars. Burns such as this one should be immersed in cold water immediately. They are best left exposed to heal or covered with a light, sterile dressing.
