Repaired hare-lip. A hare-lip is a congenital cleft in the upper lip, usually extending from the mouth to the nostril. The condition may be associated with a cleft palate. Treatment is by surgery at an early age, and used to leave a characteristic scar and mis-shapen mouth. Modern cosmetic surgery techniques leave an almost unnoticeable scar as demonstrated here.
