Webbed toes of a 70-year-old man. This congenital (present from birth) fusion of digits of the feet or hands is known as syndactyly. Fused fingers are normally surgically separated soon after birth to maintain functionality. Fusion of toes causes less functional problems, and correction may be purely cosmetic.
