Caption

Webbed fingers. This congenital (present from birth) fusion of the fingers is known as syndactyly. It is not uncommon, occurring in 1 in 2000 births. Only soft tissue, or soft tissue and bone, may be fused. Fingers are usually surgically separated soon after birth to maintain functionality.
