Caption

This axial contrast enhanced CT of the chest shows a severe pectus excavatum deformity. This is also known as ''sunken,'' or ''funnel'' chest and is a congenital chest wall deformity. The result is a caved-in appearance to the anterior chest wall. This is the most common type of congenital chest wall abnormality. Most people with this deformity are asymptomatic. There is controversy regarding the potential for cardiac and pulmonary impairment caused by lung compression and cardiac deformity resulting from the caved-in chest.
