Periwinkle. Flowering periwinkle, Vinca sp., a medicinal plant. The crushed leaves of this plant, when applied to surface wounds, reduce bleeding and aid healing. The periwinkle is a hardy perennial plant which originates from Europe and grows in fields and on the outskirts of woods; it is also cultivated as a garden plant. The periwinkle can propagate itself by sending out trailing stems to colonise nearby sites. These stems can be up to 1.8 metres long and are sometimes used to make baskets.
