Caption

Electronic braille system. Blind woman reading braille, from a system that is able to scan printed text and transfer it to braille automatically. This system, an Alva 544 Satellite (purple, fingers resting on it), utilizes a scanner (right) and laptop computer (centre) with OCR (optical character recognition) software. Once the scanned text has been converted the Alva 544 Satellite has a row of 44 piezoelectric braille cells, which allow the blind person to read the text. A braille printer (far left) is also seen.
