The tobacco used to make cigarettes contains nicotine which acts as a nerve stimulant but also causes addiction. Tar in the tobacco smoke will, over a period of time, stain the skin of the smoker's hand. It also produces chronic irritation of the respiratory system and causes lung cancer. Tobacco smoking has been linked with an increased risk of suffering from a variety of diseases, including lung cancer, chronic bronchitis and coronary heart disease.
