Nicotine inhaler. Woman holds a Nicorette nicotine drug inhaler. This device is used by people who are trying to give up smoking but who are addicted to the nicotine in cigarette smoke. The inhaler contains a 10mg nicotine-filled cartridge with menthol flavouring, and the drug is inhaled into the lungs in a smoke free way. It provides about 30% of the nicotine of a cigarette. It replaces smoking with its own regular hand-to- mouth use which resembles the habit. It is free of the tar in cigarettes, a cause lung cancer. The inhaler minimises cigarette withdrawal symptoms in the first few weeks of stopping cigarette smoking. As a drug nicotine stimulates the nervous system.
