Boy with ashtray. Young boy playing with a full ashtray. Living with smokers, the child is exposed to their cigarette smoke and becomes a passive smoker. He inhales secondary smoke from the smoker's lungs as well as smoke produced directly by the burning cigarette. This can cause respiratory diseases including asthma, bronchitis and lung cancer. Such children are more likely to become smokers themselves. There is also a risk of him eating a stub or burning himself on a cigarette if it is improperly extinguished.
