Cannabis seeds. View of several packets of cannabis seeds for sale. Cannabis (Cannabis sativa) is a plant native to Asia which is grown for its tough fibres (hemp) and its psychoactive properties. The leaves and flowering heads, which secrete a potent resin, are dried to form marijuana. This is smoked or eaten to produce feelings of elation, relaxation and altered senses of time and space. Due to these properties, cultivation of cannabis is illegal in many countries. These seeds are being sold in a market in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, where cannabis has been decriminalised.
