Making a cannabis joint. Teenage girl making a cannabis joint. She is holding a pin (centre) onto which is skewered a block of hashish (cannabis resin). The block has been heated and she is crumbling the hashish onto cigarette paper. The crumbled hashish is mixed with tobacco and hand rolled into a joint. Hashish is made up of the resin of the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). The effects of smoking cannabis include mental relaxation, accelerated heart rate, perceived slowing of time and heightened senses. Large doses may result in panicky states, fear of death and illusions. Prolonged use may lead to psychological problems and lung damage.
