Cocaine snorting. Woman snorting a line of cocaine next to a razor blade seen from below. This alkal- oid drug comes from the leaves of the coca plant (Erythroxylon coca). It is absorbed into the bloodstream through the nasal membrane, producing feelings of exhilaration and energy. Prolonged use leads to psychological dependence, while snorting the drug may harm the nose lining. Over- doses can cause brain seizures or cardiac arrest.
