Abstract representation of a young man suffering from headache. Headache is one of the most common types of pain. The pain does not come from the brain, which contains no sensory nerves, but from the meninges and the scalp with its blood vessels and muscles. Common causes of headache include hangover, a noisy or stuffy work environment, irregular meals, poor posture and prolonged travel. Rare causes of headache are brain tumours, hypertension and aneurysm, the ballooning of a brain's blood vessel. Medical advice should be sought in case of persistent headaches which do not respond to self-help treatment.
