Headache. Artwork of a sagittal slice through the brain over a face in profile in an expression of pain. Headache is one of the most common kinds of pain. The pain does not actually come from the brain itself but arises from the meninges (membranes around the brain), the scalp, blood vessels or muscles. Migraine is a severe headache that lasts from two hours to two days. It is accompanied by disturbances of vision and/or nausea and vomiting. There is no single cause of migraine. Attacks can by triggered by stress, food (especially cheese, chocolate and red wine), bright lights or noise.
