Dog's mercury. Historical artwork of the dog's mercury plant (Mercurialis perennis). This poisonous plant was used as a purgative and to treat jaundice. It has been abandoned as a remedy for internal illness due to its poisonous nature. Roots (lower centre) and leaves and flowers are seen. From The Instructive Picture Book or Lessons from the Vegetable World, Charlotte Mary Yonge, 1857.
