She may be suffering from indigestion (dyspepsia), a general term for pain associated with eating. It typically causes a burning pain in the area behind the sternum and above the stomach. Pain resembling severe indigestion can be caused by angina pectoris, a complaint due to the heart receiving too little blood. She may also be suffering from muscular strain, a nervous disorder, or menstrual cramp.
