Headache. Woman holding her forehead due to the pain of a headache or migraine. Headaches are one of the most common types of pain. The pain does not come from the brain itself, which contains no sensory nerves, but from the meninges around the brain and the blood vessels and muscles of the scalp. Common causes of headache include hangovers, a noisy environment, irregular meals, poor posture and prolonged travel. Rarer causes include high blood pressure, or hypertension, and brain tumours. Medical advice should be sought in cases of persistent headache which do not respond to the common analgesic (painkiller) drugs.
