Calf pain. Woman holding her painful calf. She may have sciatica, deep vein thrombosis, cramps or claudication. Sciatica is the inflammation of the sciatic nerve. Deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein, often in the leg, causing inflammation and pain. Cramps result from muscle overuse. Claudica- tion, a cramp-like pain that can occur when walk- ing, may be due to restricted blood flow in a leg.
