Neck pain. Naked man holding his painful neck. The pain may be caused by muscle spasms or a whiplash injury in which soft tissues, ligaments and spinal joints are damaged when the neck is suddenly and forcibly bent. Neck fractures or a slipped intervertebral disc may be to blame where there is considerable pain. Treatments of milder forms of neck pain include the use of painkilling drugs and massage.
