Possible causes of neck pain may include strains of the neck muscles, damage to the joints of the neck bones (vertebrae) or whiplash (sudden jerking of the neck). A large proportion of neck pain has no identifiable cause and is of no serious concern. Treatment may involve massage, painkilling drugs, or temporary immobilisation with a neck brace.
