Intravenous infusion equipment. An intravenous infusion bag containing a clear fluid, with a cannula (thin plastic tube). This equipment is used to introduce a volume of fluid into the bloodstream, usually via the veins of the forearm. An intravenous infusion, commonly known as a drip, can be used to give blood or plasma, to replace or maintain body fluids in patients who are unable to drink or eat, and for the administration of certain drugs. The rate at which the fluid enters the circulation is controlled by an adjustable valve.
