Passion flower plant (Passiflora incarnata) in a vase. Preparations of this plant are used in herbal medicine as a hypnotic (to aid sleep), as an antispasmodic (to treat muscle spasms), and as a sedative. Passion flower compresses are also used to treat burns and skin irritations. The plant is originally from Virginia, USA, but is widely cultivated for its beautiful flowers.
