Passion flower plants (Passiflora incarnata) lying on a botanical artwork. Preparations of the passion flower plant are used in herbal medicine as a hypnotic (to aid sleep), as an antispasmodic (to treat muscle spasms), and as a sedative. Passion flower compresses are also used to treat burns and skin irritations. The plant is originally from Virginia, USA, but is widely cultivated for its beautiful flowers.
