Caption

Syringe and ampoules. Glass ampoules and a syringe and needle. A syringe is used to inject fluids (such as drugs) or withdraw bodily fluids (such as blood) for testing. The needle is used to penetrate the skin, and the plunger is used to inject or withdraw fluids. Glass ampoules are designed to keep vaccines or drugs sterile until needed. The ampoules are sealed under sterile conditions, and when they are required the top is snapped off, allowing the drug or vaccine to be used. Standard ampoule volumes are usually 1-20 millilitres, but can be larger.
