Portable blood pressure monitor with a digital display, on a woman's wrist. This blood pressure monitor, or sphygmomanometer, can be bought off the shelf for home use. It has an inflatable cuff (grey) connected to a digital measuring device. The cuff is inflated until blood flow in the wrist is stopped. It is then deflated, and the systolic (pumping) pressure and diastolic (resting) pressure of the heart measured and displayed. The screen is showing a blood pressure within the normal ranges for an adult, with a systolic pressure of 115, and diastolic pressure of 70. Blood pressure is measured in millimetres of mercury (mm HG).
