Absorbent wound dressing. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Mepilex Border silicone-faced polyurethane foam dressing. The three layers here are, from top to bottom, the cellulose layer, the foam layer, and the silicon adhesive layer. When applied to an exuding wound, the foam layer absorbs excess fluid but maintains the wound surface in a moist condition, aiding the healing process. The silicon adhesive gently bonds to the wound surface, allowing the dressing to be removed without ripping the healing skin. Mepilex Border, used on exuding wounds like leg ulcers, burns, and skin grafts, is manufactured by Molnlycke Health Care. Magnification: x25 when printed 10cm wide.
