Aloe leaves. Leaves of an unidentified Aloe sp. plant. The juice of the leaves of several Aloe species is used medicinally and in cosmetics. Aloe's anti-inflammatory and healing properties make it useful for the treatment of wounds, sunburn and skin conditions such as psoriasis. Dried yellow sap from the base of the leaf, called "bitter aloes", is a powerful laxative due to the presence of anthraquinone compounds.
