A radiographer placing X-rays on a light box. Radiography is the oldest imaging diagnostic technique used in medicine. Although unchanged in basic principle, the use of more sensitive films and advanced equipment has led to a vast reduction in X-ray dosage required to obtain an image. X-ray dosage is cumulative, excessively high dosages may lead to sterilisation and other symptoms of radiation sickness.
