Chest X-ray. A woman stands with her arms raised prior to undergoing a chest X-ray for a lung exam- ination. A radiologist loads an X-ray plate into a box behind her. Arm movements enable the chest to be X-rayed while the lungs are inflated or deflat- ed. The technique is useful in searching for signs of lung diseases such as cancer, pneumonia or tuberculosis. The extent and spread of disease, sites of scarring, and effect on breathing capacity can all be worked out.
