Radiography. Patient has an X-ray taken of her torso. The equipment is being operated by a radiographer behind a protective screen. The X-ray source is positioned above the patient, while an X-ray film is slotted underneath the patient. The equipment is operated remotely to ensure that the radiographer does not receive an excessive cumulative dose of radiation. Radiography is an important diagnostic technique for studying internal structures. X-rays are high-energy electromagnetic waves which can penetrate soft tissue but which are absorbed in harder tissues such as bone.
