X-ray examination. Radiographer positions an X-ray source above a patient, in preparation for an X-ray examination. X-ray imaging is a technique widely used to diagnose internal injuries and disorders. X-rays are passed through the patient and cast an image of her internal structure onto film positioned beneath her. The rest of her body is shielded in order to prevent damage to dividing cells. X-rays are electromagnetic waves of a short wavelength that penetrate soft tissues and are absorbed by bones.
