Breast X-rays (mammograms) being examined by a radiologist on a computer. Fine details of the soft tissue of a breast can be seen. Tumours are more dense than healthy tissue and show up white (top of mammograms). Tumours may be benign or malignant. A biopsy (sampling) of the tumour will confirm cancer. This type of screening enables potentially fatal conditions to be detected early on.
