Angiography. View from a control room of a patient (upper left) undergoing an angiography. X-rays of the patient's leg is seen on the monitors at upper left and lower right. Angiography involves injecting a radio-opaque contrast medium into the blood to highlight the vessels in X-ray images. This technique is used to ascertain the health of blood vessels and isolate any narrowings (stenoses) or blockages, as these can lead to tissue damage (ischaemia) or death as a result of restricted blood supply.
