MRI brain scanning of a patient. This is being done as part of the compilation of the Dynamic Brain Atlas, a network that allows doctors easy access to thousands of brain scans. It also allows doctors to find scans that match the age, gender and medical history of their patient, making diagnosis faster, easier and more accurate. Faster and more accurate diagnosis of cancer or other abnormalities allows treatment to begin earlier, which increases the chances of curing the disease. The project harnesses the power of a supercomputer network called The Grid, which can be accessed from a desktop computer.
