Endoscopy examination. Doctor performing an endoscope examination of a patient's upper gastrointestinal tract. This endoscope is a thin, flexible tube that is inserted into the body through the mouth and throat. The tube contains optical fibres, which guide the light to a small camera. This relays images to the monitor at centre. Endoscopy is used to diagnose a variety of disorders including throat and stomach cancer, ulcers, infections and injuries. It can also be used to remove a swallowed object, as a small hook or claw can be attached to the end of the endoscope.
