Cholecystectomy procedure. Surgeon removes the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) of a patient using a laparoscope with laser. In this minimally-invasive technique, only three small incisions are made to insert a drainage tube, the laser emitter, and a laparoscope tube (held in the surgeons left hand). The laparoscope provides a view of the gallbladder on a TV screen (top left) and allows the surgeon to guide the laser and cut free the gallbladder. Cholecystectomy is performed as a treatment in patients suffering the severe inflammation of the gallbladder associated with gallstones.
