Artemisia flowers (Artemisia sp.) clustered on a branch. The Artemisia plants have many medicinal properties, with some being used to prepare drugs to treat malaria, a widespread and sometimes fatal tropical disease. Some forms of malaria resist the standard malarial drugs, and drugs derived from the chemical artemisinin (from Artemisia annua - the Chinese wormwood plant) have been used to successfully treat malaria.
