Eye examination. Image 7 of 15. Ophthalmologist lifting up a patient's eyelid during an examination of the patient's eyes using an ophthalmoscope. This piece of equipment shines a fine beam of light into the patient's eye, while magnifying lenses allow the ophthalmologist to examine the area where the light falls. Some serious eye disorders, such as glaucoma, are initially symptomless and can only be detected by this type of examination. A healthy individual should have an eye test every two years. See M450/267-281 for an eye examination.
