Patient wearing a 24-hour ECG recorder. This is a small electrocardiograph (ECG) which takes readings from the patient during a normal 24-hour period. The measurements are recorded on a magnetic tape cassette, then played back and studied at a hospital. This allows a doctor to study the heart's response to exercise, daytime rest, sleep and other activities. This may be used either as a diagnostic aid, or in monitoring patients after heart attacks.
