Electrocardiography. Patient undergoing an electrocardiography (ECG) examination. A doctor is attaching electrodes to the patient's chest. These will measure the electrical activity of his heart and the results will be recorded by an ECG machine as an electrocardiogram. ECG can diagnose a range of heart complaints, and is commonly used to monitor the heart following surgery or a heart attack.
