Knee biopsy tissue. Surgeon using a scalpel and needle to place a sample of tissue in liquid wax. The tissue was removed from a patient's knee during an arthroscopy, a keyhole procedure used to diagnose knee problems such as arthritis and inflammation. Tissue removed during the procedure (biopsy) is frozen in wax and later examined to help diagnose infections.
