Insertable loop recorder. Patient holding an activator over the site where his Insertable Loop Recorder (ILR) has been implanted. An ILR is a device implanted beneath the skin to monitor heart rate. The green light indicates that the device is successfully recording the patient's heart rate. An ILR is used in patients with cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) and is used to diagnose vasovagal syncope (fainting).
