First aid for choking. Illustration demonstrating the procedure for aiding a choking infant. The infant should be supported under the jaw by one arm, with the head lower than the body. Then several sharp blows should be aimed between the shoulder blades. This has the effect of forcing air out of the lungs, dislodging the blockage. If this method fails, immediate medical help should be summoned.
