Young child playing inside a "biological isolation garment", a type of space suit that has been customised for severely immunocompromised patients, those who are highly vulnerable to infection & usually confined to special sterile areas in hospital intensive care units. A child playing in such a suit might have undergone a bone marrow transplant, a procedure that requires the temporary destruction of the recipient's immune system by whole body X-ray irradiation to prevent rejection of the donor marrow. Following irradiation, the recipient must avoid all risks of infection until their immune system begins to function normally.
